Aqua recommends chlorinating your well as the first step in trying to remedy an unsafe sample, high iron, iron bacteria, high hydrogen sulfide, & anytime the well is entered for service work.
It is not our practice to chlorinate a well, for the sake of chlorinating. Chlorinating your well should be done for specific reasons. Chlorine is a caustic oxidizer, that should be used with caution.
So if you have decided to chlorinate your well below are the instructions.
Directions for chlorination, using Calcium Hypo Chlorite, are given in a seven (7) step
method (household bleach has chlorine content of approximately 6% and Calcium Hypo Chlorite has an available chlorine content of 65%).

Warning: It is recommended a licensed pump installer or well driller chlorinate water wells. Do not attempt to chlorinate your private well if the pump or piping is connected to the well cap or if you have a flowing well or a pressurized wellhead. When using Calcium Hypo Chlorite, it is extremely important it be handled with the utmost caution and care. Calcium Hypo Chlorite is a hazardous material and if not handled properly it may result in severe injury. Chlorinating code complying wells is, in most instances, an effective means of disinfecting a well and plumbing system. But, under certain conditions, obstructions and/or corrosion can occur in the well/plumbing system. A homeowner may chlorinate a water system. However, it is strongly suggested, a pump installer or well driller who is equipped, do the job.
